How We Evaluate Brands
Our brand reliability rankings are compiled from multiple data sources and updated quarterly. Each brand is evaluated on four weighted criteria:
Expected Lifespan
Based on manufacturer specifications, NAHB lifecycle data, and InterNACHI residential component guidelines. Ranges reflect typical installed conditions, not ideal lab performance.
Warranty Coverage
Warranty duration is weighted alongside transferability and coverage exclusions. Longer, more comprehensive warranties generally correlate with manufacturer confidence in product longevity.
Reliability Rating
A 1–5 composite score incorporating industry reputation, contractor preferences, service frequency indicators, and published failure rate data where available.
Price Tier Classification
Brands are categorized as Budget, Mid, or Premium based on typical installed cost ranges for residential applications. This helps homeowners align expectations with budget.
Data sources: NAHB/Bank of America Study of Life Expectancy of Home Components, InterNACHI Standards of Practice, manufacturer warranty filings, and contractor survey data. Last updated: Q1 2026.
